Weight watchers works for me. I gained about 70 pounds during my first pregnancy, and gave birth to my son in May of 2009.
I lost a lot of the weight on my own, but after 6 months, I still had 25 pounds to lose that weren't going anywhere.
I've had several friends that had success with Weight Watchers and my company has a program that will reimburse you for weight loss endeavors, so I decided to give it a try. I started the program 6 weeks ago and so far I have lost 14.2 pounds.
Most people know that Weight Watchers is based on a points system. In my opinion, one of the best things about the program is that NOTHING is off limits, as long as you account for it.
I pay monthly, which gives me access to the online tools. I love being able to track everything I eat online, and the database is already loaded with the points values for tons of foods. I can also track my activity points there.
Of course it was difficult at first to go from eating anything and everything that I wanted to watching my portions and counting my points. The plan has forced me to incorporate a lot more fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods into my diet in order to keep to my daily points.
There are also 35 flex points per week, which I've found allow me to eat out once or twice depending on where I'm going.
Another thing I like about the plan is that there are special considerations for nursing mothers; that gets you additional points each day and also advises you how many servings of fruit, milk, etc. you should have.
I do attend one meeting per week and I find myself really looking forward to my weigh in each week. It really helps keep me on track.
I think that the 30 minute meeting presentations can get a little hokey, but I do like the celebrations they do, congratulating you publicly (or privately, if you prefer) for every five pounds you lose and for meeting your 5% and 10% goals.
I still have about 11 pounds to go to reach my pre-pregnancy weight, and I need to lose about another 20 pounds after that. I feel confident that Weight Watchers is going to help me reach that goal, and maintain a healthy weight.
I do see the plan as something I could stay with for a lifetime. Of course it's difficult at times, but weight loss always is.
I would definitely recommend it to others. It doesn't hurt to give it a try and see if it works for you!
