Television and weight loss shouldn't both be spoken in the same sentence. They're not compatible.
If there was one thing you could do to help yourself lose weight, what would it be? It would probably be to turn off the television.
This will probably sound awfully radical to you. Or downright ridiculous. If so, it is just a sign of how addicted you are.
Human beings were not designed to sit in one place. It's not natural.
It is like one of those science fiction movies -- you just plug in to the monitor and all of your experiences come through the television.
Well, it's not natural and it's not good for you.
Completely aside from the shows you are watching, the real problem with TV is that it has you pinned to a chair or the couch when you should be moving.
And to compound the felony, you have chips in one hand and a Coke in the other hand. That is a formula for disaster.
Think I'm wrong? Then try this: Take all your clothes off and go stand in front of the mirror. Like what you see? Case closed.
You have to get up and do something. And it won't kill you.
Now, you're thinking "maybe cut back a little on the television?" You could. But it would be better to shut it off.
Television is very addictive. Did you ever try to visit someone who had the TV on? You can't talk to them. They are glued to the set.
Is it possible to live without TV? Yes, of course. My kids grew up without any TV. We read books, played games, went for walks. When they were older they said they were glad they didn't have it.
What would you miss? The latest soap opera? The news? Well, your soap opera stars don't do much, really, year after year, and they'll be all right.
And the news should really be called "the bad news," and how much depressing news do you really need in your life?
Yes, I know you are tired. I know you are worn out. But the real point of course is this: you don't get enough activity.
Until you get up and off the couch, and get some activity, and get out into the world, and start doing things, and start looking around more, you are going to be tired and worn out.
When you get some activity you'll get your energy back. And yes, I am sure that is true.
Television and weight loss -- turn off the TV and start living. And see if the pounds don't start melting away.
