Have you done this?
So you say to yourself, "Ughh. I look awful. Disgusting. I'm so fat!"
Maybe you weren't quite so harsh. Just a little self-critical. But still, it's easy to let those negative thoughts creep in.
Well, it's time to stop that. It's not OK. It's not fair to you. It's not right. It's mean.
You have to stop being mean to yourself.
You've heard this haven't you?:
"Sticks and stones can break my bones
But words will never hurt me."
It sounds good. But it's just not true. It's the rare person who isn't affected by negative comments and criticism.
Words can cause a lot of damage. Words can tear you down. They can make you feel bad about yourself.
But words can also build you up. You need motivation for weight loss. And you need building up.
So, decide to stop criticizing yourself. Start right now. No more being mean to yourself.
You don't like your thighs? Fine. Maybe they're not what the way you'd like them to be. You can work to make them better.
But what do you like about yourself? Maybe it's your eyes. Or your hands. Or your hair.
So when you look in the mirror you don't say, "I look awful."
Instead, put on your best smile. Really do it. Smile at yourself in the mirror. Or make funny faces at yourself like you did when you were a kid. Make yourself laugh.
And then tell yourself, "My hair looks good today. My eyes look good today. And I look good today!"
Oh. And when you say it, mean it.
You don't mean it? Well, then change your mind. It's the easiest thing to do there is.
