A long time friend told me about the Atkins diet after he lost a lot of weight doing it. He told me I could eat as much meat as I want but I just had to cut my carbs. I love meat so I thought it would work for me.
I started the diet two years ago when I weighed 250 pounds, and I am only 6 feet tall.
I followed the max weight loss plan that they gave in my Atkins book. I could not eat more then 20 grams of carbs per day.
I could eat red meats like pork, beef, chicken -- all good sources of weight loss. I also ate veggies that are not high in starch and drank plenty of water.
The water and not eating candy was the hardest part for me. Splenda candy products and crystal light juice helped me out a lot!
In the first two weeks I lost 11 pounds. After that I lost 3 pounds a week for 3 weeks in a row. I could have lost more but I did not exercise with the diet.
In the course of 3 months I went from 250 down to 218. I was not hungry because I ate a lot of meats. I did feel like I craved sugar at times.
I like the fact that when I went out to eat I could eat steak or any meat, with a salad and veggies. It was very easy for my to stick to the diet.
But my wife had a hard time because she loves desserts like pie and cake. I suggest that if you are trying to lose weight that you try the Atkins diet. As the summer months approach I am starting the diet again.
