If you never worked out at a gym before, there are some things that you should know.
They have all the equipment you need. They have treadmills, stair-steppers, small weights, large weights, weight bands, machines, mats, classes.
There are no distractions. At home there is the telephone, the television, knocking on the door, the kids, the refrigerator, and on and on.
Once you get there you are going to work out. I almost never see anybody come to the gym and not work out. Of course there is the matter of getting there. But once you get there you are going to do your workout.
Everybody there is working out. They will inspire you.
If you go to a nice club it is really a club. You can meet friends there.
Are you out of shape and embarrassed? Do you wonder what other people will think?
If you think you would be embarrassed about being out of shape, that is a big mistake.
It is this simple: the only person that will think badly of you at the gym is you.
Everyone else there will admire you for working out. They will appreciate you putting out the effort. They will encourage you. They will help you in any way they can. They will give you advice. They will give you moral support.
They are working out too. They know what it means. They know how important it is to you. They are behind you. They want you to succeed. They are pulling for you.
Whatever shape you are in, whatever shape they are in, they are there with you.
So nobody will be down on you or think badly of you whatever your shape in any gym.
I have never in 30 years have seen anybody working out at any gym anywhere do anything but go out of their way to help others in the gym in any way they can, and I have worked out with everyone from young kids, old women, people who are 300 pounds overweight, championship bodybuilders and world record holder powerlifters.
If there is anyone that thinks badly of you for being in the gym it is you. And if you do, then it is time to stop it.
Has your weight caused you to be negative about yourself? Then it's time to start being a better friend to yourself. Don't be hard on yourself.
Congratulate yourself for what you do. For trying. You know what? Even by reading this it means you are trying. You are doing something for yourself right now. You should be proud of that.
So join a gym. Get the results. You'll take a huge step toward having the body you want. You'll be glad you did.
