You might find it hard to believe, but fat in the diet won't hurt you.
Butter's good. Butter won't hurt you. Eggs are good. Eggs and egg yolks won't hurt you.
I know, you have been told differently. You have heard that you shouldn't eat butter. That it's too fattening.
You've heard that you shouldn't eat eggs. That they will raise your cholesterol.
Well, I eat butter. I'm not overweight. I eat eggs by the dozen. I don't have high cholesterol.
Why do I eat butter? For one thing, because I like it. It tastes good. But more than that it is natural.
You have been taught to eat margarine. That margarine has fewer calories than butter so it is better for you. But do you even know what margarine is?
Margarine is chemically treated oil. It was invented in France as something to give to the soldiers and the poor. It is marketed these days as a "health food" because it doesn't contain cholesterol.
But there is nothing healthy about it. The chemical changes that make the oil become solid at room temperature make margarine become solid in your blood stream. Your body was not designed to process altered fats.
Butter, however, is completely natural. Yes, it has a lot of fat and it has cholesterol. But it is easily digested. It doesn't contain chemically altered fat.
The whole point with butter is not to overdo it. Use a little butter for flavor. Too much fat in the diet can add too many calories and ruin your weight loss efforts.
Butter is a good example because it shows some of the principles of a healthy diet:
Eggs are another good example. You have heard that eggs raise your cholesterol. That's really not true.
Most of the cholesterol in your blood is cholesterol that your body made. That's right. Your body makes cholesterol because it needs cholesterol.
Cholesterol is made into all sorts of hormones that you could not live without.
Estrogen -- the female hormone -- is made from cholesterol.
Testosterone -- the male hormone -- is made from cholesterol. There are many other hormones made from cholesterol.
So the point is not that you can't eat eggs because they raise cholesterol. The point is this:
… then you will have trouble with cholesterol.
You will also have trouble with obesity and heart disease and strokes and high blood pressure and diabetes.
But eggs are not the problem. Eggs are an excellent source of protein. They also contain vitaman A, vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and zinc.
If you have high cholesterol that is just a sign that your metabolism is out of whack.
You should concentrate on the things that are ruining your metabolism in general. They are the same things that are making you overweight.
Are you getting enough sleep? Are you eating highly processed foods? Are you getting enough water? Do you get some sunlight in your eyes everyday? Are you walking?
And specifically regarding fat in the diet, you should get the artificial fats out of your diet.
Don't eat dangerous fats -- "hydrogenated" fats -- the fats that are chemically treated so they are solid at room temperature.
You find them in your favorite foods:
These will kill you -- the cookies and doughnuts will kill you -- but eggs won't.
So eat your butter, eat your eggs, but don't eat too much. Enjoy yourself!
