Despite having a healthy diet and doing hours of cardio, I still had unwanted belly fat, so I went on the atkins diet.
I lost a stone in a month. My energy levels were very high, I was training really hard and my cardio and endurance was great. I was never hungry.
One day noticed a rash on my face, which the doc diagnosed as SHINGLES. I was not ill. I was given a course of anti-viral tablets and carried on for 3 weeks training and sticking to my diet. Then I began to feel ill, total fatigue, sleeping for 15 hours a day.
I really felt that ill, it was frightening, and all tests came up negative. They said I had a post shingle virus?
In all it lasted 6 weeks. I never trained once, I had zero energy. Even talking was a major effort.
Now I blame the Atkins. THE ATKINS DOESN'T COVER ANY ASPECTS OF PEOPLE WHO SERIOUSLY TRAIN, EVEN THOUGH I BURNT FAT AS FUEL. SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT.
The only detail I missed out on was not taking a multi vitamin. Now I'm back to eating carbs and the fat is back on my body. I still have bouts of tiredness and I wonder how much the Atkins diet play in my ill health.
