I have been on Atkins since May and have had great success with it. It is a high-protein, low-carb diet which has helped me lose about 1-2 pounds a week.
I started by eating only meats with a few vegetables. Vegetables have some carbohydrates and sugars so it is important to limit them at first.
After a day or two, my body entered ketosis which meant it was no longer craving carbs and sugar. After a couple of weeks, I added some more vegetables so that I would be eating more healthily.
Once I got into ketosis I no longer had the cravings for carbs and sugar and was not constantly hungry. I found it easier to be satisfied with a salad for lunch and did not get tired after lunch.
This is an easy diet to stay on even when traveling. When eating out, you can usually ask for meat items without bread and substitute vegetables for potatoes.
Be aware that many items have a lot of sugar in them and too much sugar will set your body back to wanting carbs. After reading a lot of product labels, I decided that I had to cook a lot more of my own food in order to control how much carbs and sugar I had.
I look at this as more of a lifestyle change. I needed to get used to coming home and making dinner instead of stopping at a convenience store.
While I could eat cheeseburgers and bacon and eggs, I am trying to limit how often I eat that because it's not that good for you. I save it as a bit of a treat.
When I want sweets, I have sugar-free drinks or Atkins bars.
The one thing I have not been able to give up is coffee. If I could do that I think I could get even better results.
