Atkins Does Not Work
by Erik Shier
The promise of unlimited quantities
I tried the Atkins diet a few years ago. The promise of a diet where I could actually eat without paying attention to the quantities sounded very appealing.
It soon turned out it wasn't as good as I expected.
One day -- then collapse
I started the diet eating lots of proteins and almost no carbohydrates. In the first day things were not very bad.
The problems started on the second day. I had a hard time trying to do my work, which is very intense, intellectual work. Concentration was hard. I felt I had no energy.
Success with balanced diet
I still tried to follow the diet for more 3 days, until I gave up. My productivity at work was very low and I felt really bad and tired.
I then followed the hard path: small portions of healthy, balanced food and exercises. Since following this nutrition program, with professional help, I don't have weight problems anymore.
So based on my experience I couldn't recommend the Atkins diet.
