A few years ago I wanted to lose weight for my sister's wedding. Atkins Diet was the craze diet of the moment and I like meat and cheese so I decided to give it a try.
The actual "dieting" part of the diet was extremely easy because you are never hungry. You can eat all day every day on this diet if you like and still lose weight.
Also, eating in restaurants and fast food places is a breeze as many know exactly how to accommodate people on this diet's restrictions.
Also, the premise is very simple. The secret? The diet merely requires you to eliminate carbs from your daily eating routine. Therefore, you can eat all the meats and cheese you care to.
However, you also have to cut out all those yummy breads, bagels, donuts, etc. that many of us love. Also, there are a lot of veggies that are no nos on this diet as well.
What you can and cannot eat is extensively published so I will not go too far into that right now.
So you may be wondering, what was the problem with this diet? The short answer is: YOU NEED CARBS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY!!!
After about two weeks on this diet I had lost ten pounds but I felt light headed and weak all the time. I had a hard time concentrating and doing even the most minimal amount of physical activity.
So I decided to resume eating carbs. The result? I gained all the weight back plus five pounds.
Avoid Atkins unless you are prepared to go breadless for life. I do not recommend this diet to anyone looking to lose weight and keep it off.
It is great for quick fixes, such as a wedding or big event, but not for a lifestyle.
