When I was in school cricket was my favorite outdoor game and it still is. I am a six footer and lean built and I used to open for the team as a bowler.
The number one requirement to be a pace bowler is that you have to be physically fit.
When I started we didn't have any fitness coach to guide, however we used to read some magazines and talk to local sport persons about the various methods of fitness.
We used to do laps around the field and then do dribbling and side running. These were the usual exercises we used to keep ourselves fit.
Then one day our Principal asked me if I would be interested to participate in the National Level Championship Tournament. It was like a dream come true. Without a second thought I said yes.
He said he had a coach who would train me. He was really tough and made me do all these exercises that I never thought of.
He made me run in mud, sand, and over big boulders. It was like hell. I felt like quitting but my friends encouraged me to keep going.
It was very tough and dangerous too. During those days my entire body was aching.
But looking back at it, those exercises were something which I still find very valuable. I am nearing 40 now still have the energy to carry out tough work and I don't feel exhausted.
