From Celebrity Health and Fitness is a story about a fashion model who is concerned about the health of other young models.
Supermodel Bar Refaeli has added her voice to fashion industry insiders who are concerned about super-skinny models walking the runways. She says it makes her “so sad” when she sees girls looking “all shaky and hungry.”
It's good when those in the industry speak out. Not only do models make themselves sick by excessive dieting and weight loss, they set a dangerous example for other women and young girls.
But now, after reaching supermodel status ten years into her career, the 25-year-old fears that young models are giving in to pressure to lose weight and slim down to frightening proportions.
The model recently twittered: “I get so sad when I see 15-year-old pale extremely skinny models at the agency looking all shaky and hungry… when will it end?!?!?”
It is easy to see why they do it. It's one thing to condemn the anorexic look. But take a look in any of the fashion magazines and what do you see? Page after page of young girls with bony frames and sunken cheeks.
Refaeli also condemns cosmetic surgery and urges fans to follow her example by living healthily instead.
Plastic surgery has its place. And that place is in correction of serious injuries, birth defects and those unusual features that markedly affect someone's appearance.
But for most people plastic surgery shouldn't be necessary. If you take care of yourself, eat well, get enough activity and have good grooming, you'll have an attractive appearance without plastic surgery.
By the way, Bar is not perfect. She confesses to one vice:
“Me? I’m addicted to pomegranate juice.”
Pomegranate juice? Now, that's a pretty good vice.
