It's like learning to ride a bicycle or ski. You might not do it for years, but when you try it you can do it again.
It's the same for almost any other physical activity. If you never did anything physical in your whole life it would be much harder now to start. Not impossible, but not easy.
But you have muscle memory. So any sort of exercise program is much easier for you than for someone who was never active.
In a way it is "natural" to gain weight as you get older. You are not growing anymore, so you don't need as many calories.
But you don't have to get fat.
So what should you do? The easiest and best thing is to start becoming more active.
Do something fun. Remember games used to be fun? They still can be.
Play some racketball. Go swimming. Go running. Or just take a walk.
Any of these will speed up your metabolism and burn the fat.
Look out for hidden calories, like cream in your coffee.
Look out for hollow calories, like Coke and other soft drinks.
And look out for massive restaurant portions, such as a 2000 calorie "all I had was a salad."
When you do this you will be able to keep a good healthy weight for the rest of your life!
